The Goat Rodeo Runs Head-first Into Chaos

This time of the year is so rough.  It's one thing after another.

In this area, schools go back just after Labor Day.  We homeschool, so that doesn't affect us too much, but that's also when dance classes, Hebrew school, Girl Scouts, and other extra-curriculuar activities start back up.

This year, all four of the Goat Rodeo were old enough for some activities and they all had something that caught his/her eye. I am among the least organized folks in the world, but even I went so far as to create a spread sheet to organize which classes were available which days and times.  I even color-coded them by age-range.

When we finally settled on classes/groups, then we had to start shuttling back and forth to them.

Soon after the start of classes came the high holidays.  Just as you start to get back to normal after Rosh Hashanah, a rogue Yom Kippur appears.  So you fast.  It's very effective (Don't be fooled.  I'm not a gamer, but my husband is).  Once Yom Kippur ends, you breathe a hugh sigh of relief (and stuff your face) only to realize Sukkot is just around the corner.  Because the baking of Rosh Hashanah and fasting of Yom Kippur weren't enough, now you need to build a house.  Not just any house, one which meets very specific requirements for what it's made of and where it rests.

Add into all that the fact that writing and computers are forbidden for a good deal of time during the holidays.  What you're left with is very little time for thinking breathing blogging.

AKA

Mama's Losin' It has a cute video blog today about how the title of her blog came to be.

That got me thinking.  What would some good alternative titles be for my little corner of the interwebz?

Here's what I've come up with thus far.  Feel free to jump in and add your 2 cents.

I remember one friend of mine suggested, "Laughing at the Library," because we would live at the library if they let us.  I was only half-joking when I told friends that librarians are like Pokemon for my kids.  The last time my kids walked in to the children's library and saw a new librarian at the desk, my son turned to his sisters and said, "Look, there's a new one.  YES!"  My kids collect children's librarians.

A friend once had Weird Al and Kate Winslet's song (Yes they did), "I Need A Nap," as my ring tone for me because I use that phrase all too often.  So there's an option.

Here are some more:

There's Not Enough Coffee In the World

Lorelai Gilmore's quotation is oh so accurate, "Oh, I can't stop drinking the coffee. If I stop drinking coffee, I stop doing the standing and the walking and the words putting-into-sentence doing. " Yet it's a bit lengthy for a title, don't ya think?

Coffee NOW! (If you're not sensing a theme, you're not paying attention)

Sexually Deprived For Your Freedom

Oy Vey, That Boy!

Queen Of The Freaking Internet (this is a close second to my current title)

Yeah, They're All Mine and Yes, We Did That On Purpose

Children Aren't Meant to Come In Pairs

What Part Of "Jewish" Do You Not Understand?

1 Minute Apart (for all those who look at our twins and ask in a judgmental tone, "How close in age ARE they?")

My Dignity Was Delivered With the Placenta

Keebler Elf-sized (I'm tiny)

Yay Rum!

Now, tell me, which one's your favorite?  What would you have named this blog?

My One & Only
(aka Arming the Drama Llama With Lightsabers)

Dear Blogosphere,

Let's think twice before using the word, "Only."  That word can be a vicious word.  It can cut things and people down.  It can be an attempt at minimizing.

When you say, "It's only X," what you're saying (or at least what others are hearing) is, "X doesn't really matter."

Military wives understand "Only," in a way no one else does.  They also actively campaign against it.

When my husband was deployed for the first time, I mentioned to a civilian friend that he was scheduled to be gone six months (it was later extended).  She said, "Oh, that's not bad.  It's only six months.  My friend's brother was gone for a year."  I cringed and thought to myself, "Yes, it IS bad.  It sucks that her brother was gone for that long, but that suckage doesn't outweigh mine."

During that deployment, at the base playgroup with my twin toddlers, another mom's husband was away for a month.  She started to vent to me and then stopped herself saying, "I shouldn't complain.  He's only gone for a month.  Yours has been gone for a long time."

Military wives don't let military wives say, "Only."  I stopped her and told her a month sucked too.  Six months sucks.  Twelve months sucks.  This isn't a suckage contest.  We can all appreciate that they suck and bitch accordingly.  This isn't a contest.  There is no scale.  No one is weighing your suckage against mine.

Luckily, early in that deployment, at the same playgroup, I had tried the exact same thing myself and learned my lesson.  Another woman's husband had been gone for a while and I started to complain.  I then apologized and said, "Your husband's been gone X months (I've long since forgotten).  Mine only left a month ago.  I shouldn't complain.  You have it much worse."  She stopped me and told me, "No.  Don't do that.  Deployments suck.  They all do no matter what."

If something is difficult, it's difficult.  Don't "Only," it for someone else.

Yes, yes, I hear your objection.  True, some folks are drama llama jockeys.  Everything is hugely dramatic to them even when it doesn't seem that way to others.  You get the urge to "Only," their constant drama.  "It's only a paper cut.  An ER visit really is unwarranted."  You know what?  Let them charge on ahead in their drive-by drama llamaing.  Your "Only," isn't a lasso.   Your "Only," isn't going to reign in their charging drama llama and calm it the hell down.  If anything, it'll give their drama llama a lightsaber with which to fight you (and I hear llamas are awesome with lightsabers).  It'll also give the dramatic one more fodder for the drama and everyone knows the drama llama does so love fodder (it's delicious with a nice white wine sauce).

So, before you tell someone, "It's only..." think twice.  Picture a dramatic llama wielding a lightsaber and hopefully, you'll be laughing too hard to continue on with that thought.

Remember, every time you use, "Only," a drama llama gets a lightsaber.

Soy un perdedor
I’m a loser baby, so why don’t you kill me?

With this post, I'm completing Nanoblomo.  I have a blog post for every day this month.   Yay!

Today is the last day of November which also marks the end of Nanowrimo.  I can't call myself a "Nanowrimo Winner" because my novel doesn't consist of 50,000 words.  So you won't see any cool winner badges or certificates on here.

Originally uploaded by AdamBaronPhoto

I didn't hit 50,000 for two main reasons:  #1.  I'm writing a young adult novel and I don't believe I need 50,000 words.  #2.  I got to a point where I really needed some outside opinions to know where to go from there and I didn't get those before the end of the month.

While I'm annoyed that I can't add one of the cool winner badges, I consider myself to have successfully completely Nanowrimo.  I wrote every day and until recently, I met or exceeded the 1600+ word count per day.

So I'm happy with that.  I'm not a winner, but, with a word count of 36,339*, I'm going to call it good and just keep working.

*Final word count at 11:54 pm is 37,606.  I am officially calling this novel done.  From here, I move on to editing which I plan to do for a long time.

Broken Computers and A Month Full of Blogging

Sorry for the absence.  The weest of my wee ones took it upon herself to destroy my laptop, so I had to wait on a new computer.  My imac has appeared and so too has November.  I'm taking part in Nanoblogmo which means you'll see at least one post from me every day this month.

Feel free to cheer or jeer, which ever you feel is more appropriate.

I'm also going to take a stab at NanoWriMo for the very first time ever.  I was toying with an idea for a young adult novel and then, at the library, books with a somewhat similar theme just about jumped out at me.  So I'm going to take that and run.

Of course, I just realized today is November and that means I'm supposed to get started on all this stuff.   Oh joy!

Day 3: You've Gotta Have Friends (and a camera)

On the 3rd day of randomness, your blogger gave to thee, photographs of people you probably don't even know.

Perfect timing since it's Wordless Wednesday.  I can get the Wednesday part down.  The wordless, not so much.

Girls' Night Out in July

Dinner at shul a week or two ago.

Don't you love the blur of kids in that last one?  Maybe you like the suggestive balloon animal with which we're posing.  Perhaps all those pieces of cake are making you drool.  Funny enough, in the top picture, we also had cake and took pictures of said chocolate cake.  I'm not friends with the cake nor am I in those pictures, though, so I'm not posting those.  :-)

And in honor of those awesome friends, some of my favorite friendship quotations.

"How I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year, running over the same old ground and how we found same old fears. Wish you were here."--Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here)

"Strangers are exciting, their mystery never ends, but there's nothing like looking at your own history in the faces of your friends."--Ani DiFranco

"There are so many ways to be connected to people. There's some people that you feel this unspoken connection to, even though there's no word for it. And the people you've known forever that you know in ways other people can't, because they've seen you change…they've let you change."--Angela Chase from My So Called Life

"Love is blind, but friendship is clairvoyant."--unknown

"There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them."--J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone)

On the 2nd Day of Randomness
My Blogger Gave To Me...

a very brief explanation.

Well, that's easy.

I refer to my gaggle of kids as "The goat rodeo."  People are endlessly amused by this.

We're in the process of moving, hence, "Relocating the Goat Rodeo."

I know, the anticipation just damn-near killed ya, didn't it?

Linky roundup 8/24

Here are some links that have piqued my interest this past week.

I love Tori Amos and that song is particularly dear to me.

This is indeed a win.
What a great way to propose!

In keeping with the engagement theme,
This is such a fantastic video. They really are a sweet couple.

I came out of the blogging closet this week to my friends and family when I posted a link to my

I posted pictures wherein I marveled over how much the smallest of my preemies had grown.
I ordered mine and shared the link.

Mental Floss is awesome.
Some great information I never knew about Dorothy Parker. She was shorter than me. I don't often get to say that.

I want to make these for the kids' rooms using their product packages and tags.
I saved the super cute box from the Valentine's Day shower curtain I got on clearance at Target and my kids often save the tags from their clothing because they like the designs. This would be a great way to use all of those to decorate their rooms.

I so understand!

Spark is one of my favorite videos of all time.
The audio helps explain many things I've always wondered about.

I played this song over and over again.
Obviously, language warning. The "Poking me" part is my very favorite.

A friend discovered
He is a urologist who performs vasectomies.
"Dr. Richard (Dick) Chopp is well known in the Austin community for performing Vasectomies."
You can't make this stuff up, people.

I like the Graphics Fairy and this one is one of my very favorites.
This is one of those things that makes me say, "Jesus, save me from your followers."
Two great tastes that taste great together: cupcakes and coffee.
I'm drooling just thinking about these.

Yet another thing I'd love to try when we move.

I'm using that pink wall as inspiration for the big girls' room when we move.
How pretty is that! A friend recommended recreating it using lace and spray paint. I think that's a fantastic idea and we'll need to give that a try.

We're planning a vow renewal (traditional Jewish wedding ceremony since we had a secular ceremony when we got married) & I would LOVE to have the guests do this.

That's all for this week. I am, however, the queen of random linkiness. So I'm sure there will be more to share next week. Hopefully, I'll feel compelled to post something more in between linky updates.
